Detroit Jewish Coalition for Literacy (DJCL)
Nearly half of America's 4th graders read below grade
level, while America's Jews have almost a 100% literacy rate. This is
an equation that should equal action by the Jewish community.
The Detroit Jewish Coalition for Literacy serves as an
umbrella organization that works to increase the Jewish community's
involvement in the fight against illiteracy by mobilizing volunteer
readers, tutors and book drive organizers. DJCL serves 2,000 students
in programs that have been established in Detroit Public Schools and
public schools throughout Oakland County.
Opportunities and times are flexible to meet each volunteer's availability.
