UNITY IN DIVERSITY

As the liaison between the Jewish community and the public at large, the Jewish Community Relations Council works to maintain and improve ongoing relationships with major ethnic, religious, racial and civic groups in metropolitan Detroit.

Council organized meeting of Chaldean-American leaders with HIAS (Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society) Washington director Lisa Shuga Hublitz to discuss immigration issues

Council’s outreach to ethnic groups including the African American, Hispanic, Asian, Arab and Chaldean communities enables us to collaborate on issues, such as minority rights and immigration reform. Among the intergroup organizations that Council partners with or participates in are the Michigan Roundtable for Diversity and Inclusion (formerly NCCJ), New Detroit, Inc. and the Chaldean Federation of America.

Council works regularly with metro Detroit’s diverse faith communities to promote mutual understanding, respect and cooperation. We have longstanding relationships with the Archdiocese of Detroit and the Michigan Roundtable’s Interfaith Partners.

Through the Council, members of the Jewish community participate in a broad range of community programs such as local community diversity task forces and Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday commemorations.
