Community Relations | Detroit Jewish Initiative (DJI)
URBAN-SUBURBAN PARTNERSHIPS
The Detroit Jewish Initiative (DJI) was created by the Jewish Community Relations Council and the Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Detroit to facilitate partnerships and collaboration between the metropolitan Detroit Jewish community and communities within the City of Detroit. DJI connects the Jewish community with Detroit’s civic, community and business institutions, organizations and Detroit residents in projects aimed at enhancing the quality of city life.
We all share a stake in Detroit’s future, and our challenge as a Jewish community is essentially the same as that of the greater Detroit community – to improve collaboration, expand creative thinking, build bridges, and tap our cultural strengths and heritage gives us the power to make a difference.
The Detroit Jewish Initiative is built on a foundation of three essential ingredients: • Relationships DJI develops, maintains and strengthens meaningful relationships linking metro Detroit’s Jewish community with communities within the City of Detroit that produce measurable benefits to both communities. • Communication DJI promotes opportunities for improving communication and understanding between the Jewish community and the people and organizations in the City of Detroit. • Action DJI convenes programs which build lasting relationships through collaboration among people in all communities.
