The Katherine Rosendaal Museum-- Segment on Schenectady Today In & Around the Capital Region with Guest: Janice Walz – Proctors Historical Museum Committee. Proctors Monthly Museum Moments -- We'll hear another great story about Proctors. At the turn of the 20th century, Frederick F. Proctor, known as the "Dean of Vaudeville," managed many successful theatres throughout the eastern half of the United States. In 1919, the strength of General Electric and the American Locomotive Company added to a population increase of over 80,000 people in Schenectady, NY, which influenced F.F. Proctor to build a larger, more grandiose theatre in the "uptown" business area. Soon after, he purchased the real estate at 432 State Street in Schenectady, and in 1925, construction began on what promised to be Proctor's most sensational vaudeville theatre.
