The Story Circle's New Season – Segment on Schenectady Today In & Around the Capital Region with Guest: Christie Keegan, Storyteller Christie tells us a true story about wanting a cat for a pet when she was a little girl. At each Word Play, a different group of performers tell rarely heard contemporary and traditional stories about being human. You will discover that Word Plays is a shared experience between the audience and the performer, combining the intensity of a solo performer with the intimacy of a face-to-face conversation. These tellers share stories about people, in fact, folktale and fiction, who had a choice to make in their life's journey: Siri Allison, Fran Berger, Betty Cassidy, Alden (Joe) Doolittle, Kate Dudding, and Margaret French. Starting our 17th season of a storytelling dinner series for adults, Christie Keegan's love of animals began shortly after birth and grew as she did, whether a volunteer, rescuer, docent or storyteller in Massachusetts and New Mexico. Influenced by her mother's mantra "there is no us and them, there's only us – if you forget that we are all in trouble", Christie works hard to share her knowledge about and her love of animals with everyone she meets." APF will receive 100% of the profits. theREP's 4000 Miles, A dramatic comedy – Segment on Schenectady Today In & Around the Capital Region with Guests: Maggie Mancinelli Cahill, Artistic Director and Eileen Schuyler, Actor, "Vera" in 4000 Miles Amy Herzog's Obie Award-winning dramatic comedy, 4000 Miles, next up at Capital Repertory Theatre, Sep. 25 through Oct. 18, follows Leo's epic trek after he leans his bicycle against his grandmother's couch, winded from his travels and nearly broken from his travails. The 100-minute play (a Pulitzer Prize finalist that has been grabbing laughs at regional theatres nationwide) is absolutely contemporary, what theREP's producing Artistic Director Maggie Mancinelli-Cahill calls, "an unexpected Odd Couple for the 21st century." Herzog's characters—not just Leo and Vera, but Bec and Amanda as well—speak the way we speak. His frustrations tumble out, a mix of vowels and missed opportunities. Hers follow, snatches of Marxism and melancholy born of love. And the young women spin, like satellites, like bicycle wheels, around them. Pedal on. Eileen Schuyler returns to theREP as the peppery Vera Joseph, a dyed-in-the-wool New York Jew who has largely replaced religion with politics. Schuyler, most recently seen as the Player Queen in Kevin McGuire's Hamlet, is a longtime friend of the theatre, having appeared in 33 Variations, You Can't Take It With You, Our Town and Fuddy Meers. Known locally for extensive work with Stageworks/Hudson and the New York State Theatre Institute, she is an Audie Award winner and serves as artistic director of Theatre Voices.
